Overdue, Lost, or Damaged Material

I. Overdue Materials

Materials are considered overdue if they are not returned or renewed by the due date. Books, audiobooks, and DVDs are checked out for 1 month and may be renewed 2 times if no Holds have been placed on the item. Back issues of periodicals (journals, magazines, and trade publications) are checked out for 2 weeks and may be renewed 2 times. Overdue materials must be returned as soon as possible.

II. Lost Library Materials

Library patrons are responsible for the loss of any materials they have borrowed and are unable to return. Patrons will be held responsible to replace the item(s) at their expense.

III. Damaged Materials

Library patrons are responsible for the safekeeping of Library materials. Book damage may include: stains from food or water/coffee; torn or missing pages; underlining, highlighting or otherwise marking pages. Examples of damage to audiovisual materials include scratched or broken disks, and broken cases. Patrons will be held responsible to replace the item(s) at their expense.

IV. Resolution for Lost and Damaged Materials

The Library would prefer the patron to replace the missing or damaged material with a new copy (same edition, same publisher, and same format as the lost item). If there is a newer edition or a different publisher, the Library may accept that as a replacement but prior approval must be obtained from the Library. Replacement item(s) must be new or in like new condition. The Library will not accept replacements that have highlighting, damaged bindings, missing pages, or scratched or broken disks.
